Abstract / Description

The paper presents a German translation of the Ethic Position Questionnaire EPQ (Forsyth, 1980). Data of a heterogeneous sample (N=132) show the two-dimensional structure of the 20 items according to their Eigenvalues. PCA with Varimax-Rotation resulted in the independence model of ethic idealism and ethic relativism according to Forsyth. But intercorrelations match a model of acquiescence and an orthogonal bipolar dimension of idealism vs. relativism as well. Both models are statistically equivalent as it is shown by structural modelling. The ambiguity of the EPQ remains in correlations within Schwartz' values circle (14-bipole-questionaire, Strack): The dimensions of the independent model correlate in opposite directions. However, correlations with direct measures of deontology, utilitarism, hedonism, intuitionism, and particularism can't decide between both models either. The Bipolar model could not been rejected. The ambiguity of the EPQ is due to it's lack of items towards pragmatism and universal criteria.
