Abstract / Description
The following study examines young adults' conditions and expectations on career
counselling and personal intentions influencing their career choice. Sample (N=232): 153 female and 79 male people aged between 17-23 years, 95% of them students. Data was collected through questionnaires mostly in schools. Analyses were run on frequencies and significant differences due to gender and status of career decision using Mann-Whitney-Test. For open questions quantitative content analysis was used.
Results: Students with clear career aspirations are more active in their vocational exploration, the preferred source of information is the internet, women use more of the information offered. Interviews with people working or studying are perceived most helpful in decision making. Primary expectations include curriculum/career information and personalised counselling, considering individual objectives as well. Results prove the demand for personalised, integrative career counselling.
