Zusammenfassung: A meta-analysis on the relationship between the Implicit Association Test (IAT) and corresponding explicit self-report measures was conducted. Based on a sample of 81 studies, the overall effect size was close to .24 with approximately one third of the variability across correlations due to moderator variables. Moderating effects were found for the kind of topic under investigation, the degree of cognitive elaboration associated with the topic, order of explicit and implicit measurement, compatibility order, and the nature of the employed explicit measure. No effects were obtained for stimulus-related characteristics of the IAT. Theoretical and method-related implications are discussed.
