Zur Wirkung von Ähnlichkeit, Freundlichkeit und Kompromißbereitschaft des Diskussionspartners

Abstract / Description
An experiment was conducted to study the effect of the similarity of views, courteousness, and the willingness to compromise on the part of a simulated interaction partner upon the change of attitude towards the partner and the making of decisions in the course of a negotiation. In the beginning of the negotiations, a courteous partner had a much greater effect than an uncourteous partner. After receiving information upon the partner's willingness to compromise, significant effects could be registered mainly in those combinations of conditions which were consistent, viz. when a courteous partner with similar views showed willingness to compromise, or when an uncourteous partner with opposite views showed no willingness to compromise. If no information upon the partner was available, a partner with opposite views had more effect than a partner with similar views; this might be due to the frustration caused by the counterarguments constantly given by the partner.
