Zielideen einer utopisch-moralischen Psychologie
Author(s) / Creator(s)

Abstract / Description
Starting from a critique of the postulate of refraining from making value judgments the paper attempts to set up guiding concepts for the development of psychological constructs and theories; these guiding concepts are seen as a first step in the elaboration of the "humane relevance" criterion in psychological research. The utopia principle, based on the results of creativity research, is taken to explain, in particular, the concept of an "integration of opposing poles" (in construct components or sub-constructs) as a way of generating psychological constructs which point to fascinating positive possibilities for human development. Using the concept of "application to one-self" ("tu quoque"-argument) the moral principle attempts to eliminate potentially inhumane, i.e. unnecessarily hurtful research and theoretizing. The guiding concepts are related to each other inasmuch as it is only together that they can fulfil their postulates, that is represent a concept of polar integration based on self-application.
