Abstract / Description
The data of 13th Shell-Jugendstudie 2000 were analyzed to identify the socio-demographic, parenting, and personal predictors of three aspects of mobility readiness. The representative sample consists of 4.546 adolescents. The adolescents were asked for their readiness, (a) to move job-motivated within Germany, or (b) to emigrate job-motivated (geographic mobility readiness), or (c) for their readiness to become some time self-employed (entrepreneurship).
The perceived family climate revealed only indirect effects on the mobility readiness. Gender, education, and job orientation predicted all aspects of mobility readiness. Men, higher education and a strong job orientation predicted high mobility readiness. In addition, geographic mobility readiness varied with the marital status and the family orientation and also an orientation towards Europe as chance. Mobility readiness within Germany was higher in the Eastern
parts of Germany and in Berlin. A strong tendency for adaptation reduced the readiness to emigrate and the readiness for entrepreneurship. Furthermore, a weak striving for autonomy and strong anxiousness reduced the readiness for entrepreneurship.
